Mobile Trends: Where We Are Now and Where We’re Headed

Mobile technology is constantly updating and upgrading. It seems just like yesterday we were reading about the iPhone 5 rumors; now we’re analyzing how the actual phone compares to the hype and its competitors.

When you consider the fact that most people didn’t even have a mobile phone ten years ago, the progress is incredible. Have you ever stopped to think about where mobile trends are headed?

The Stats on Where We Are Now

How are people using their mobile phones nowadays? A few mobile consumer stats:

  • Consumers use their mobile phones the most while at home.
  • On-the-go and while shopping are close seconds for mobile phone use.
  • Of course, more mobile use equals more mobile apps. Over 300,000 apps have been developed in the last three years.
  • Apps have been downloaded 10.9 billion times in the past three years.

Where We’re Headed—By the Numbers

Of course, mobile technology isn’t going anywhere, but its growth spurt in the coming years could be surprising. Check out these numbers on the surge you can expect to see in mobile use in the future:

  • MobileFuture predicts that by 2016, a total of 3 billion mobile devices will be available in the United States.
  • By 2015, 111.7 million Americans will be mobile shoppers.
  • Also by 2015, almost half of Americans will be using the Internet on a mobile device (compared to around 36% nowadays).
  • Sorry, dumbphones. By 2015, 109.5 million Americans will have switched over to smartphones.

Mobile technology is changing the way consumers browse the Internet, connect on social media, and purchase with E-commerce. What mobile trend do you predict for the future?

How Young is Too Young? 10 Questions About Kids and Gadgets

Parents have iPads and eReaders. Teenagers have PSPs and iPhones. Is there an exact date or time best to give your children their own gadgets?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, as it is too difficult to define the best timeframe for a specific family or child. However, there are some specific questions to pose prior to gifting your child a gadget that may help better dictate the right timing:

  1. What is the main reason your child wants the gadget?
  2. What is the technology policy at his/her school?
  3. Are you familiar with the capabilities of the gadget?
  4. Will you be able to monitor their gadget use?
  5. Are there parental controls available on the device?
  6. Will this device be used for educational or entertainment purposes?
  7. Are there added costs to the gadget (data plan, apps, case, etc.)?
  8. Will the gadget take away from their face-to-face time with friends and family?
  9. How long will the gadget last?
  10. Is this gadget just a fad?

Our kids are growing up in a technology-driven world. If our children don’t interact with today’s gadgets in some form, whether in school or at home, they could be behind for the future.

No matter if it’s mobile phones, video games, tablets, laptops, or cameras, think about these questions and weigh your options as a family.

Have you decided that your kid is old enough for that new gadget? Take a look at your gently used electronics to see if there are any you could sell for cash! Use NextWorth’s price calculator to make a price quote and earn money for your electronics.
