iPod Guide: How to tell which model you have.

        

  1st Generation : Scroll Wheel :
 A movable scroll wheel with four Buttons arranged around it and one select button in the center 

  
    

  2nd Generation : Touch Wheel:
The wheel and button layout is similar to the Scroll Wheel iPod, however the wheel on these models does not move.  

  
  


 3rd Generation: Dock Connector :
4 touch-sensitive buttons located below the display. See also the 30-pin dock connector on bottom of the iPod

    

   4th Generation:Click Wheel: 
White faceplate, grey wheel. The touch sensitive click wheel does not move.  Click Wheel only with black/white.

    

   4th Generation:Photo: 
White faceplate, grey wheel. The touch sensitive click wheel does not move.  Photo has a color display.

   


   5th and 5.5 Generation Video:
The flagship iPod in white and black versions. Color display and plays movies and videos. 5th Generation was produced up to Q3 2006 and from then the 5.5th Generation has been on the market. This release has a better and brighter screen. To determine which release please use the model number in the calculator.

   


   Video Classic (iPod Classic):
Video classic (iPod Classic): This Video silver and black versions. All and more features as the 5th Gen Videos. Anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel enclosure



   1st Generation Nano :
A slim iPod with steel casing in various colors. Color display for text and pictures. Replaced by 2nd Gen Q3 2006.



   2nd Generation Nano:
A slim iPod with aluminum casing in various colors. Color display for text and pictures. Launched Q3 2006.

    



   1 st and 2nd Generation Mini:
In aluminum casing with scroll wheel. Black and White display. Colors; Silver, gold, blue, green, pink.

  



   1 st and 2nd Generation Shuffles:
1st Gen long and in plastic casing. 2nd Gen in aluminum casing. 2nd Gen launched Q3 2006. All shuffles are without screens.

 



   iTouch:
widescreen multi-touch display. Aluminum casing.

 



   iPhone: 
Widescreen multi-touch display. Aluminum casing. iPhone written on the back cover.
